Kids in Art Class

Arte Preescolar y Familiar 

El arte juega un papel importante en el desarrollo de las habilidades motoras finas, la fuerza de las manos y la coordinación.

 

En este programa, nos enfocamos en la socialización, la conexión, el aprendizaje sensorial basado en el juego y el fomento de la imaginación.  Las clases comienzan con una historia compartida en grupo donde leemos un libro ilustrado sobre un artista, luego pasamos a la creación de arte.  

 

Dentro de nuestro trabajo artístico, los niños comprenden las líneas y las formas, el color, la acuarela, el grabado, el tejido, la escultura y otras formas de arte. Más allá de hacer obras de arte, nuestros artistas más jóvenes practican la autoexpresión y la creatividad con un propósito para prepararlos en sus viajes creativos. En estas lecciones, el proceso se trata del enfoque, no del producto.  

 

Las clases son muy pequeñas, con 8 niños por 1 maestro.

 

La clase es de una hora de duración, semanal y continua.

Our summer art programs are thoughtfully designed for elementary-aged children, offering both half-day and full-day options to accommodate the varied needs and schedules of families.

These immersive programs cover a wide array of artistic disciplines, from painting and sculpture to fiber arts and art adventure camps, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging creative experience for every young artist.

Introduction to Drawing Fundamentals

This course is designed to introduce young students to the essential skills and techniques of drawing. Over the course of four weeks, participants will explore basic concepts such as line, shape, form, and composition. 
 
The class will provide a strong foundation in drawing from observation, encouraging students to engage with a variety of subjects including objects, landscapes, and figures. Instruction will focus on developing hand-eye coordination, understanding perspective, and mastering shading techniques to bring depth and realism to their artwork. Each session will include practical exercises and projects that reinforce these concepts, providing a supportive environment where students can discover their artistic potential and gain confidence in their drawing abilities.

Painting Class for Kids Grand Rapids MI

Introduction to Painting with Acrylics
This course is designed for young students eager to explore the vibrant and versatile world of acrylic painting. Over the span of four weeks, participants will be introduced to the fundamental techniques of painting with acrylics, including color mixing, brush handling, and the application of various painting methods.

The class will focus on helping students understand the properties of acrylic paints, such as their quick-drying nature and how they can be used both thinly like watercolors or thickly like oils. Each session will guide students through the creation of different projects, ranging from simple landscapes and portraits to more abstract compositions. This class aims to foster a creative atmosphere where students can experiment with colors and techniques, ultimately gaining the confidence and skills to express themselves artistically through acrylic painting.

Nature Drawing Explorations
Nature Drawing Explorations is a course designed for young students to discover the beauty and diversity of the natural world through drawing. Over four weeks, participants will learn to observe and depict various elements of nature, including plants, animals, and landscapes.

The class will cover fundamental drawing techniques such as sketching, shading, and texturing, tailored to help students capture the intricate details of natural subjects. Each session will focus on a different aspect of nature, providing students with the opportunity to explore outdoor settings or work from natural objects brought into the classroom. This course encourages a deep appreciation for the environment while enhancing students’ drawing skills and their ability to see and represent the world around them in art.

Weather permitting, this course may meet at different spaces around Grand Rapids - parks, etc to capture different environments in a hands-on way.

Expressive Brushwork and Mark-Making

Introduction to Pencil Shading

From Drawing to Publication: Creating Your Own Book
From Drawing to Publication: Creating Your Own Book is an exciting and unique course where young artists will learn how to turn their drawings into a published book on Kindle. Perfect for an amazing gift for the holidays! 

Over three weeks, students will go through the entire process of creating a book, from conceptualizing their story and illustrating it to formatting and publishing it online. Each participant will create their own story, complete with illustrations, and will learn how to use digital tools to prepare their book for publication. By the end of the course, every student will have a finished, published book that makes a perfect holiday gift for family and friends. This course is ideal for aspiring young authors and illustrators eager to see their work in print and share it with the world.

Note -This class is three sessions long, as we will not have our fourth class due to the holidays. As a result, it is slightly cheaper than our four week sessions.

We are proud to share fine art classes at East Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation.  

This year, we are sharing courses for preschool, elementary, and adults.
