Our Fiber Open Studio, designed for individuals aged 16 and up, offers a vibrant space to explore both traditional and innovative fiber arts techniques. Here, you can weave intricate patterns, knit bold designs, or experiment with mixed media, using our extensive resources to expand your skills and bring your creative visions to life.

Time: drop-in, 6:00pm-8:00pm
Location: Cultivate, 620 Wealthy St SE, Grand Rapids, MI
Admission is $10 for supplies and to support the artist facilitator!

What to Expect

 

At our Fiber Open Studio, participants can expect the flexibility to continue working on personal projects brought from home to work on them with a group, or to learn new techniques under the guidance of an expert instructor. Whether you're interested in mastering traditional weaving, exploring contemporary knitting patterns, or experimenting with innovative mixed media in fiber arts, our studio is equipped to support your creative exploration. Each session provides an opportunity to enhance your skills through hands-on practice, allowing you to refine your techniques or start fresh with something new, all within a supportive and resource-rich environment.

About the Facilitator

​

Gail Long (she/her) is an accomplished artist whose current body of work deeply engages with the natural world through textiles. Gail earned her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and her MA from Grand Valley State University. Her work has been showcased in both virtual and in-person exhibitions and has been featured in several esteemed publications, including Create Magazine, The Huts Magazine, and Painting Our World.


Gail brings a wealth of experience and a deep love for fiber arts to the studio, offering guidance and inspiration to artists at all levels.
