Summer Art Camps

This summer, we offer dedicated art camps tailored for children aged 6-12 and specialized programs for teens, each designed to foster artistic growth and expression. Our elementary art camps provide a vibrant environment where younger students can discover and enhance their artistic abilities through a variety of projects and activities. Led by experienced art educators, these camps ensure a supportive and enriching atmosphere for your child to develop new skills and confidence in their creative pursuits.

 

For teens, our summer program presents an opportunity to dive deeper into the arts, exploring advanced techniques and concepts tailored to their growing interests and abilities. This series encourages personal expression and refinement of artistic skills, preparing teens for further educational or professional aspirations in the arts.

Both programs offer flexible half-day or full-day options, catering to the diverse schedules and interests of our participants. Join us for an inspiring summer filled with art and creativity. Time Travel Artists: A Journey Through Art History

Embark on a thrilling adventure with "Time Travel Artists: Art History Adventures," where elementary students experience art from various historical periods through interactive and fun activities. This course transforms learning about art history into an exciting quest through time.

Each session, students will 'time travel' to a different era, from the cave paintings of the Stone Age to the abstract expressions of the 20th century. They'll engage in games and challenges that bring the art and culture of these periods to life. Activities include creating their own cave drawings, building mini Roman mosaics, painting in the style of the Renaissance masters, and experimenting with modern art techniques.

Alongside these creative projects, students will participate in interactive games that reinforce their learning about each time period, such as art history scavenger hunts, trivia challenges, and role-playing famous artists. "Time Travel Artists: Art History Adventures" is perfect for children who love art, history, and adventure, offering a dynamic and immersive way to explore the evolution of art through the ages.

Advanced Comic Art and Storytelling

9-12pm

Advanced Comic Art and Storytelling is a course crafted for students aged 6-12 with a passion for comics and a foundation in drawing. This course delves deeper into the art of creating compelling comics and graphic novels, focusing on advanced storytelling techniques, character development, and dynamic panel layouts. Students will explore how to weave narratives with their art, mastering the balance between visual storytelling and written content.

 

They'll learn about creating engaging story arcs, designing unique characters, and using perspective and composition to enhance their storytelling. Through hands-on projects, participants will develop their own comic strips or pages, applying their new skills in storytelling, pacing, and visual communication. This course aims to inspire young creators to bring their imaginative stories to life, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the craft of comic art.

Portfolio Development and Art Critique

1-4pm

Portfolio Development and Art Critique is aimed at preparing students for the next steps in their artistic education and careers. This class guides students through the process of creating a compelling art portfolio, crucial for college applications, scholarships, or professional opportunities, while also introducing the fundamentals of art critique.

 

The curriculum emphasizes selecting and presenting works that reflect the student's unique voice and skill set, covering layout and digital presentation techniques. Students will learn how to critically evaluate their own work and that of their peers, fostering an environment of constructive feedback and personal growth. Key components include understanding the criteria for a standout portfolio, the basics of writing an artist's statement, and strategies for effectively discussing and defending one's work. The class also incorporates practical sessions on receiving and applying feedback to refine and enhance one’s artistic output.

By the end of the course, students will have not only assembled a portfolio that showcases their best work but also gained valuable skills in critique and self-assessment, preparing them for the rigors of higher education in the arts or entry into the professional art world.

Note:  While this course is designed for high school juniors and seniors, we encourage any teen who wants to take their art to the next level, and/or prepare for the AP Art classes in future years.
